Intro Call (book now)

We talk through your product, motion (freemium/trial), current numbers, and upgrade pains, and decide if this sprint actually makes sense.

Initial breakdown & review

I map your current upgrade journey (signup → activation → upgrade), review your pricing, paywalls, and key screens, and highlight where things are clearly getting in the way.

Upgraders vs non-upgraders

We dig into how people who do upgrade behave differently from those who don’t — using whatever mix fits your product best (analytics, user interviews, team workshops, etc.).

Prep 1–3 easy fixes

I create low-/mid-fidelity mockups and copy for 1–3 changes we want to ship first (for example, a new paywall, trial screen, or upgrade prompt).
If we use the design add-on, I work with a designer to turn these into final, dev-ready designs.

Ship + 3-month roadmap

You roll out the changes (depending on your process), and we wrap by mapping a clear 3-month upgrade roadmap so your team knows exactly what to test and improve next.

FAQ

1. Are we even at the right stage for this? This sprint makes sense if you already have signups, active users, and some paying customers — but not nearly as many upgrades as you’d like. If you only have a handful of users or no one is paying yet, it’s too early. If you’re at “it grows, but we don’t really know why”, you’re in the sweet spot.

2. Do we need product analytics before we start?
Yes, at least the basics. I’ll need funnel data (signup → activation → upgrade) and a rough view of how people actually use the product. If you don’t have product analytics set up, we can either do a light workaround (manual pulls, billing + CRM) or add a separate Data Setup sprint where we set up tracking properly over 4 weeks.

3. How much time will this take from my team?
Plan on ~2–6 hours a week from a PM (or Product Founder) + Designer and a few hours from whoever owns data/ops. I can’t predict exactly how long implementation will take on your side, but I deliberately focus first on easy wins that don’t take weeks to ship. If you want, I can also bring a designer partner so we cover the full design cycle for the first changes.

4. Will we actually ship anything in 4 weeks, or just get a report?
What actually ships depends on your team’s bandwidth and process. From my side, you’ll get 1–3 upgrade changes fully prepped (mockups + copy for paywalls, trial screens, upgrade prompts, etc.) and a clear 3-month roadmap. If your team can move quickly, some of it can go live during the sprint; if not, you still have everything ready to implement.

5. How is this different from a generic CRO / UX / funnel audit?
Most CRO work stares at page-level conversion and button colors. I focus on the upgrade journey: how real people go from “trying your product” to “paying and staying”. We look at usage behavior, product surfaces, and psychology — not just “increase the CTA size”.

6. Does this only work for trials, or also for freemium?
Both. Upgrade Journey works for “free trial → paid”, “freemium → paid”, and hybrid motions. We pick one upgrade path to focus on first, map it properly, and fix the biggest leaks there.

7. What if we don’t have a designer?
Totally fine. I can create low/mid-fidelity mockups and copy your team can implement. If you want polished, dev-ready designs, we can add a design partner as an add-on and ship final versions together.

8. Can you guarantee a specific uplift in free-to-paid conversion?
No honest person can guarantee a number without touching the product. What I can promise is: you’ll know where you’re losing upgrades, what your best users actually do, and what to change first — plus you’ll leave with a small set of high-impact changes ready to ship and a clear plan for the next 3 months.

9. What kind of access do you need?
Tool access (or screenshares) to your analytics, billing, and product; someone who can walk me through how things work today; and a point person to sanity-check decisions. No code or infra access needed.

10. What happens after the 4-week sprint?
You can take the roadmap and run it yourself, or I can stay on as an embedded partner (Upgrade Partners) and help you implement and iterate on everything. That ongoing support is usually around half the price of the sprint or less, depending on how many hours you want me involved each month.
